Manifesto has always encouraged up and coming designers and creatives. Giving floorspace to exhibit and showcase their work and encourage them to grow their skills.
We believe that Dundee and the surrounding areas has an abundance of local talent, and we do what we can to help them on their journey.
For Spring/Summer 21 we once again decided to collaborate with award winning director Bonnie Macrae featuring Local band Parliamo for their latest Single 'Paul & Barry'.
The lyrics in the song provide a tongue-in-cheek take on romance, with the chuckle brothers’ method of moving large objects used as metaphor for the awkward beauty of young love. ‘See you and I are intertwined, we are like Paul and Barry, to me, to you, to me, to you, with nothing there to carry.’
Musically the band took inspiration from their more electronic and trip-hop influences such as Groove Armada, The Avalanches and Massive Attack (All Manifesto shop favorites). For this track, they sampled the unique sound of the droning bass harmonica in Dennis Wilson’s 1977 track Dreamer, speeding it up to provide the bouncy, baggy Paul & Barry with a perpetual backdrop of contrasting sound, driving the track along whilst also merging the distinctive warmth of the 70’s recording sound with the more crisp, modern cowbells and 808s.
